So, heute hab ich mal ein neues „Driver“-Armband für meine Omega gebastelt. Normalerweise ist ja ein Metall-Armband verbaut. Da musste nun endlich mal ein richtig schickes Lederband für meine Speedmaster her.
Vorbild waren die „Driver“-Armbänder aus den 70er Jahren, die sich gestalterisch schon damals an dem Lochmuster von Sportwagen-Lenkrädern und Fahrer-Handschuhen à la Fangio/Rosemeyer aus dem Rennsport der 30er bis 60er Jahre orientiert hatten. Tag Heuer hatte vor einiger Zeit ein ähnliches Armand für seine Carrera wieder neu aufgelegt. Deshalb hab ich meine Bilder gleich mal im Oldschool-Look der 70er bearbeitet.
Das Armband ist am Gehäuse 26mm breit und verjüngt sich dann zur Schließe hin auf 22mm. Bei der Rollschließe habe ich mal wieder die Stahltülle entfernt und mit Leder umnäht – damit das Band nicht so hässliche Metallabdrücke und Verfärbungen bekommt. Es besteht aus jeweils 2 Lagen 1,8mm Cognacfarbenem Leder das fertig zugerichtet war, habe mal wieder nur noch mit Ballistol geölt.
Today, I’ve made a new „Driver“ leather strap for my Omega. Normally, a metal bracelet is installed. But finally it was time to make a nice leather strap for my Speedmaster.
It is based on the design of the „Driver“-straps of the early 70s, which is oriented on the hole-pattern of sports car steering wheels and driver gloves à la Fangio/ Rosemeyer from the GP-racing from the 30 to 60ies. TagHeuer made a similar strap for his Carrera model some recently. That’s why I processed my pics in that old school look of the 70ties.
The bracelet is 26mm wide on the housing of the watch and then tapering to buckle down to 22mm. I once again removed the steel tube of that roler-buckle and stitched it up with leather – to protect the strap from these ugly metal marks and discoloration. This strap consists of 2 layers of 1.8mm cognac tanned leather that was ready finished, oiled only – with Ballistol gun oil!
